Charles Alfred Anderson (1902-1990) received his Ph. D. in geology from the University of California in 1928 and taught there from 1928-1942. He joined the United States Geological Survey in 1942 and was chief of its mineral deposits branch from 1953-1958, chief geologist from 1958-1964, and research geologist from 1964 until his retirement in 1972.
